Roatán Private Residence 2

This private residence is designed on a high point on the northern coast of island of Roatán overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The fan-like floorplan was inspired by site’s features. This plan provides privacy to the different areas of the home. The three bedroom open floorplan has a very contemporary and minimalist design that enhances cross ventilation and natural cooling. The high ceiling and double story spaces create a dramatic environment and provide cooling. The simplicity of the material selection and color schemes give this home a serene and quiet feel.

The beautiful decks overlooking the Caribbean Sea are surfaced with the Mayan Conchuela stone, which has the extraordinary properties of not over heating when exposed to sunlight and is water absorbent and non-skid when wet. The covered deck areas are built with teak horizontal louvers that shield the sun without obstructing the view and create shaded, cool spaces for outdoor dining or just relaxing. The infinity edge swimming and lap pool has a 6′ waterfall creating a relaxing sound feature for the garden.

The slightly sloped and flat roofs allow for the installation of photovoltaic solar energy panels as well as a solar water heating system. Rain water is collected in large cisterns to be used during the dry seasons.
