This helmet was designed and developed in conjunction with Dr. Dava Newman and her team at the Man Vehicle Laboratory at MIT.
The helmet is designed to allow the maximum visibility to perform scientific Extra Vehicular Activities (EVAs) on planetary surfaces. The design matches the Biosuit minimalist and highly efficient approach. It houses the heads-up displays for surface navigation and planetary feature recognition, communication system, ECLSS connections, and a universal bracket to hold equipment such as cameras, lighting, and other tools.
The key feature of the Biosuit Helmet is that it turns and moves with the head of the astronaut, in contrast to the present helmets that are fixed to the suit’s structure and the astronaut’s head moves with the helmet.
